MUGA is free and open-source software licensed under the GNU General Public License v3. You control what MUGA does. Every feature is transparent and configurable, and the ones that reach out to a network are listed in these Terms.

1. Scope and acceptance

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the MUGA browser extension ("MUGA", "the Extension"). By installing or using MUGA you agree to be bound by these Terms and by the Privacy Policy.

These Terms apply to the use of the Extension as a browser add-on. They supplement, but do not replace, the rights and obligations set out in the GNU General Public License v3 (GPL v3), which governs the source code. In the event of a conflict between these Terms and the GPL v3 regarding the source code, the GPL v3 prevails.

2. What MUGA does

MUGA is a browser extension that:

Strips tracking parameters (UTMs, click IDs, and similar) from URLs before pages load
Redirects AMP pages to their canonical article URLs
Blocks <a ping> tracking beacons on link clicks
Unwraps link-share wrappers where the destination is embedded in the URL's query string (Facebook, Instagram, certain Twitter templates). Affiliate-redirect networks are deliberately preserved so MUGA does not break the creator's commission; see the Privacy Policy for the full list and rationale
Resolves well-known generic URL shorteners directly in your browser via a standard HTTP fetch; no URL is sent to any MUGA server. This is split by privacy risk into two separate settings. Resolving a short link when you open it is on by default: you were navigating there anyway, so the browser follows the whole redirect chain, and the destination site, not just the shortener, receives one credential-less request carrying the original, uncleaned link before MUGA shows you the cleaned destination. Resolving a short link when you merely hover over it is off by default and opt-in, because it would contact the shortener and the destination for a link you only looked at. On both Chrome and Firefox the extension's existing host access covers this, so no extra permission is requested; the two Settings switches are the only gate. Neither runs on passive page load, and each can be turned off in Settings. Affiliate-redirect networks are NEVER resolved this way
Fetches weekly rule updates by default: about once a week, MUGA downloads an updated tracking-parameter list from rules.muga.app over HTTPS. The request is Ed25519-signed and sent with credentials omitted: no browsing history, no cookies, no identifiers, no request body. You can turn it off at any time in Settings; with it and both short-link switches off, the Extension makes no outbound requests
Respects the original referral on links that already carry an affiliate tag, and lets you optionally remove third-party affiliate tags in Settings; MUGA does not add any affiliate tag of its own

You stay in control of every feature. MUGA does not collect, sell, or share your browsing data. Every feature that contacts an external service is listed above, carries no data about you, and can be turned off in Settings.

3. Affiliate model and disclosure

MUGA does not add any affiliate tag of its own, and it does not monetize your clicks. By default, MUGA respects the original referral: if a creator you follow earned an affiliate tag on a link, it stays, so they keep their credit. Affiliate tags tell the store who referred the visit, nothing more, and this does not change the price you pay.

The "Remove all affiliate tags from other sources" option strips the third-party tags MUGA recognises. This is an optional extra, off by default: MUGA never adds its own tag in their place
MUGA does not participate in affiliate programs and earns no commission from your clicks or purchases

4. No data collection

MUGA does not collect or transmit your browsing data. The short activity records it keeps (such as the last 10 URLs it cleaned) stay on your device, and each can be switched off in Settings. Every feature is transparent and configurable. MUGA has no analytics, no telemetry, and no crash-reporting services. Optional features that contact an external service (such as rule updates) do not send your browsing history, are listed in these Terms, and can be turned off in Settings.

Your data lives in two places, neither of which is visible to the developer: behavioural preferences (language, blacklist, whitelist, the affiliate toggle's default value) are stored in chrome.storage.sync and follow you across your own devices via your browser account; consent metadata and per-device decisions are stored in chrome.storage.local on each device individually. Acceptance of these Terms is recorded per device, not per browser account; the rationale is captured in our architectural decision record ADR-0001.

5. Third-party services

When you navigate to a store via a link that already carries an affiliate tag, your interaction with the store is governed entirely by that store's own terms of service and privacy policy. MUGA has no control over and assumes no responsibility for the content, practices, or policies of third-party websites.

6. Open-source license

MUGA is released under the GNU General Public License v3 (GPL v3). You are free to use, study, modify, and distribute the source code, provided that any derivative work is also released under the GPL v3. The complete source code is available at github.com/yocreoquesi/muga.

7. Eligibility

MUGA is intended for general audiences. If you are under 16 years of age, you may only use MUGA with the consent of a parent or legal guardian, in accordance with Article 8 of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Since MUGA does not collect any personal data, no parental verification mechanism is required, but the age threshold applies to accepting these Terms.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

MUGA is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

The developer does not warrant that MUGA will operate without interruption or error, or that tracking parameters will always be detected. Website structures and tracking methods change frequently and may temporarily affect functionality.

EU consumers: Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes your mandatory statutory rights under applicable consumer protection law, including the rights provided under Directive 2011/83/EU (Consumer Rights Directive) and applicable national legislation implementing it. Statutory warranty rights and rights of withdrawal, where applicable, remain unaffected.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, arising from your use of or inability to use MUGA.

This limitation does not apply to liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including liability for wilful misconduct or gross negligence under Spanish law.

10. Changes to these Terms

The developer may update these Terms from time to time. When they change, the version number and the "Last updated" date at the top of this document are updated.

MUGA does not interrupt you to announce a change, and it does not gate or disable any feature until you acknowledge one. As stated in section 1, your acceptance is by installing and using the Extension, so continuing to use MUGA after an update means you accept the Terms as updated. If you do not accept them, you may stop using the Extension and uninstall it.

What replaces the announcement is availability: these Terms are linked from the onboarding page, from the extension popup and from the Settings footer, so the current version is always one click away from wherever you are in MUGA.

11. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Spain. Any disputes arising out of or in connection with these Terms shall be submitted to the competent courts of Spain.

If you are a consumer habitually resident in the European Union, you additionally enjoy the protection afforded by the mandatory provisions of your country of residence. Nothing in these Terms affects your right to rely on those provisions.

12. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. The invalid provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid and enforceable while preserving its original intent.
